Dr. Sanjuanita “Sanjie” Garza-Cox grew up in both Monterrey, Mexico and Corpus Christi and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Texas at San Antonio. Â She attained her Medical Degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio before completing residency training in Pediatrics and fellowship training in Neonatology through the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
She is board certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Upon completion of fellowship Dr. Garza-Cox joined MEDNAX neonatology and began her career at The Children’s Hospital in San Antonio. She has become intimately involved in community education and promotion of health for infants in Bexar County. While serving in the Bexar County Child Fatality Review Team, she realized an urgent need for safe sleep educational interventions as the rate of preventable Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy continued to rise exponentially.
She initiated a city-wide coalition of physicians to address this community crisis, which has now become Baby Education for South Texas -B.E.S.T., a nonprofit organization focused in reducing infant mortality and improving infant health and wellbeing through education.
